The NCETM Survey – Making your views count

The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) is constantly evolving to ensure it meets the professional aspirations and needs of all teachers of mathematics. To help us to do this, we have devised a short survey. The survey is your opportunity to tell us about how you use the NCETM portal, your level of involvement in our events, networks and CPD research projects and, most importantly, how you think we are doing and how we might improve. There are just nine questions for you to answer, so it shouldn’t take more than about five minutes to complete. Please do take this opportunity to tell us about your experience of the NCETM. All the responses we receive will inform the development of our work in the future. Click here to complete the survey.

Joined Up Teachers – Rob Eastaway

In this third and final article, Joined Up Teachers, the well-known and highly-respected author Rob Eastaway looks at how we bring the mathematics community together and engage those who may feel disconnected from the subject. Click here to read more.

A community of Influential Mathematics Teachers

The feedback from NCETM Influential Mathematics Teachers Conferences last month was overwhelmingly positive. By working together, Influential Mathematics Teachers can benefit from the expertise and experience of a wide range of talented colleagues – this can then cascade to teachers beyond the network. To join the Online Community and read more about Influential Mathematics Teachers click here for more information.

Are you up to speed with Up2d8 Maths?

The new fortnightly Up2d8 maths explores a range of mathematical themes in a topical context. This dynamic resource, which forms part of the Secondary Magazine, is intended to be a framework which you can personalise to fit your classroom and your learners. Up2d8 maths is not year group specific and so will be of interest to teachers in all phases. Teachers’ notes accompany the resource and will help you make the most of what it has to offer your learners. An Up2d8 maths section will shortly accompany the Primary Magazine too.

Pilot of National CPD database

As part of an expanding package of support for the children’s workforce in schools, the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) has developed a national pilot database of continuing professional development (CPD) provision. The database is not simply a directory of training courses, but a valuable resource on all CPD opportunities in England for the children’s workforce in schools. It allows CPD leaders and other members of the school workforce, to find information on CPD provision of all types, from a diverse range of providers to meet individual development needs. To start searching for provision please visit https://cpdsearch.tda.gov.uk/.

Enquires about the database should be directed to the TDA at: CPDdatabase@tda.gov.uk.

Inspiring Mathematics Champions

The Inspiring Mathematics Champions programme has been developed by the NCETM, supported by Yorkshire Forward, to promote achievement in primary mathematics. The programme aims to prepare trainee teachers to become and create the primary mathematics champions of the future. The focus is on building the crucial teaching skills in ‘Using and Applying’ mathematics. A programme of professional development has been structured in consultation with university tutors and will provide an additional network of support and an online community. To find out more about the project click here.
