Careers from Maths - 12th May 2009
A career related workshop for mathes teachers and careers staff.  The programme will:

enable delegates to develop their ability to help students consider study of maths at 'A' level; consider the range of careers available to maths graduates; identify the barriers that prevent young people option to study maths; encourage student teachers and careers staff to work together to effectively raise the uptake of maths at 'A' level  and provide resources

Major West Midlands Initiatives 
The purpose is to inspire and motivate mathematics teachers, to help improve teaching and learning of mathematics, and to provide practical advice and guidance that will raise achievement in mathematics.

 Mathematics Development Programme for Teachers (MDPT): a national CPD programme for non-specialist teachers of mathematics
From summer 2009, the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) will be launching the Mathematics Development Programme for Teachers (MDPT), a national CPD programme of free courses to support Government targets to increase the number of specialist teachers of mathematics, and recruitment is now underway.

 Learning to Go: Handheld Learning
The 'Learning to Go' project, coordinated by Wolverhampton City Council, shows how successfully mobile learning devices can be used to give students access to 'anywhere, anytime' learning. The project involves teachers, learners and their famililes using mobile, handheld computers, equipped with Microsoft Windows Mobile software, to deliver multimedia content, internet and authoring tools.

Funding Sources
Do you have a great idea for a project in school that will enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics but are unable to find it through the school budget?

Do you aspire to research an area of mathematics education to further your own understanding and need financial support? There are many grants and trusts available to support school projects and individiuals who wish to further their education.
If you have received funding from an external source and used it to support the teaching and learning of mathematics in your organisation, or if you know of any other funding sources, we would be interested to hear from you, please contact us.
