Mastery in Maths EYFS

Hello, I wondered if anyone could recommend any resources to support mastery in EYFS. We want to stay in line with the new guidelines of not leaving a year group's given objects, but instead find ways to develop deeper understanding. However, a number of children seem very confident with for example all activites within 10 and I would really appreciate any bank of suggested activities or articles on the matter. Thanks if you can help!

Charlotte.

Dynamo maths is a nice package, not designed for early years, but could do what you want.

Charlotte - if it's not designed for E Years - avoid it! The whole idea of mastery is not to accelerate onto "harder" stuff, but to dig deeper. Having said that, This is the first I have heard of 'it' being applied to the Early years .... Be very careful if you are being asked to do something that you know is inappropriate.

The best place for enriching mathematical activities is NRich - go there!

Good luck!

Helen

Hello Colleen. The two sources of early years resources you need are Nrich -  wonderful activities for the early years, plus an interesting paper on mastery: http://nrich.maths.org/early-years  The other rich source of teacher materials for the early yrs are the BEAM resources, now available from OUP: https://global.oup.com/education/content/primary/series/beam/?facet_age_range_facet=0-4®ion=uk&view=ProductList.  There is more here than anyone would ever need and these resources are written to develop our youngest learners' depth of understanding - and enjoyment - of maths. Neither use workbooks or textbooks, which are both entirely inappropriate in the early years. Hope this helps, be interested to know how you get on.

Helen, could you please put the EYFS mastery paper from NRICH in the documents section?  The hyperlink above took me to an EYFS activities page and I struggled to find the mastery paper, which I was looking forward to read.

Thank you,

Janine

GLOW Maths Hub have developed an EYFS mastery scheme. Worth a look to cherry pick ideas.
