Hi

I have also been researching maths schemes for my school and have narrowed the search to The White Rose scheme and MNP, which I understand many schools use together. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who does this, or do you find that MNP really provides everything you need? If you do use both together, do you follow the White Rose overview/schemes and use MNP to supplement or vice versa? I would appreciate any thoughts from anyone with experience of these resources.

Hi Denise,

We don't use MNP at the school I've recently joined but I am looking to develop an approach which is more mastery based. Would be interested in knowing how you plan (long and medium term) as I am looking to adpat our planning to support the key aspects for mastery within these. Also do you use the Hampshire Assessment model, if so, how well does it support the idea of mastery teaching?

Sorry for all the questions!

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

What do you use to help with planning - are you using the White Rose stuff?

As I sais we use the Maths No Problem to help with planning for teachers.  For the medium term planning our teachers use an 'S-plan' to plan work and the Pos from the Maths No problem is our overview - this is very close to the White Rose overview of the year.

We do not use the Hampshire assessment model.  Where are you based as if possible it could be good to meet up and discuss what is happening in our schools.

Thanks for your reply.

I've just started to introduce the White Rose small steps documents but it's very early stages. I only started at this school in January, so am only just beginning the journey of making changes, hence was wondering how it works for mastery in other schools. I love the idea of S planning, but not sure it would be something I could implement at the moment - do you know if there are any good examples I could share with my Head to try and show them what it could look like?

We don't have access to MNP and very unlikely to be able to for the next year at least, so looking for ways to begin implementing some of the core aspects and develop the teaching reasoning and application too.

I work in Basingstoke but live in Winchester.

Hi Michelle,

Sorry I have no replied sooner - just end of term turmoil.  Hope you have a good break.  We did not buy into the wholeonline package, but I feel we have a way of using the scheme that works.  If you are able to visit or we can arrange to meet out of school time I would be more than willing to share our approach.

Denise
