 Benoit Mandelbrot died last week.

Here is a link to Radio 4s 'Last Word' today.  He's first on.

'5 things to do' of Issue 71 of the Secondary Magazine, which will be published on the portal on Tuesday, will contain three links to things to watch and do in memory of Benoit Mandelbrot.

Lots of coverage in the online press (if that isn't a contradiction in terms?):

'lo again Graham.

Personally I think they should have updated the Big Brother format with one where they put intelligent people in the house and got them answer intellectual questions, getting people to vote for the best contributors to the answer.  No need to keep them cooped up for weeks, they could go home in between episodes.  They could create nice meals with decent budgets and......

but I have a problem.

My brain keeps getting stuck trying to imagine what 'Benoit Mandelbrot' would sound when said with a geordie accent....

If you wonder what he would sound like with a Geordie accent be thankful he wasn't called Bacon!

Reading the obituaries I was still able to chuckle over the ecentricity of awarding himself the middel initial B which didn't stand for anything.

How glorious is that! To wake up one morning and decide, "Oh sod it! I am going to award myself a middle initial, Hmmm B sounds good."

It was nice to see Mandelbrot being remembered across the news and shortly in the NCETM secondary online magazine as well.  I just did  a google search and there were 393 news articles about his death.

btw, please remember to keep posts polite.

many thanks

Tim

Yikes, Mary appears to has disappeared down a pentagonal vortex ---- and a few hours later has reappeared as a cat.  This isn't Harry Potter Mary!

Graham - since you are probably taking cover in a hole in the garden protected by a dustbin lid I assume that little slap around the thighs didn't leave you with gushing wounds.  If so tie up with sheets and reach for the fortisip.

By the way, the ex did it because computer games demanded 3 initials in the high score lists.  I wonder if Benoit did it for the same reason?
