Spine 1 (Number, Addition and Subtraction) of the NCETM’s primary mastery professional development materials is now published in full. It is available to download from the teaching for mastery section of the NCETM website.
Successful teaching for mastery relies on a teacher’s own subject knowledge, as well as their understanding of the learning steps required. These materials are therefore designed to assist teachers in their own professional development, so they can give children the best chance of building a deep and secure mathematical understanding.
The materials comprise printable teacher guides and animated presentations that bring the representations from the teacher guides to life. They do not represent complete lessons and should not be used as such; rather, they are designed to support lesson planning, in combination with other resources such as high-quality textbooks that follow a teaching for mastery approach.
For further information and to download Spine 1, visit the mastery professional development page.
Spine 2 (Multiplication and Division) and Spine 3 (Fractions) will follow in 2019.
