What Makes a Good Resource

How might you and your colleagues use this material?

  • Before trying the activity, reflect on the topic or theme for the lesson. Why might this be a difficult idea to teach and to learn?
  • How have you taught this idea in the past?  Is there anything you have wanted to change?

  • Try the activity yourself and try to catch yourself doing things differently in the lesson.
  • Try to step back at points throughout the lesson and notice what your learners are doing and how they are engaging in the lesson. Are there changes you are noticing here?
  • You could arrange for the lesson to be filmed or use an audio-recorder as an way of recording what happened.

  • Keep a record of what you noticed and any reflections that you have about the lesson (you could use the learning journal in your personal learning space for this).
  • Arrange for other colleagues to try the activity as well and meet afterwards to discuss what you did, what you noticed and what you learned from it as teachers.
  • Post some thoughts in the comments section at the end of the resource about how the activity went, any changes you would make (or did make), what you got out of it, etc. for others to benefit from.
  • Use the Recommend a Resource forum to post comments about these resources and to recommend your own resource.
