Teacher - Helen Crouch

Teacher - Helen CouchI teach a Reception/Year 1 class at a primary school in Devon and have done so for 9 years. I have been a foundation stage leading mathematics teacher.
Audio Reflections by Helen
  • A frozen bowl of numbers
    Helen describes how she froze a bowl of water with red colouring and rubber numbers inside and asked her pupils to record what happened to the bowl during the day
  • CD Numbers
    Helen describes how she used old CDs with numbers, glitter and stars on them to create fun activities for all her pupils
  • Floating Fish Tray
    Helen describes how her class used a playtray with different coloured water and objects to create a floating fish tray. Following its creation various activities were undertaken and this proved to be a great starting point for further activity
  • It's a double square
    Helen describes how one of her pupils described the shape of a domino
  • Magic Maths Fairy
    Helen describes how she uses a Magic Maths Fairy to stimulate discussion with her pupils
  • Modelling the role play
    Helen describes how she sets up her class's role play area and demonstrates how to use mathematical tools and vocabulary and how she believes this benefits children
