Widening Participation at A Level

This section offers some stimulus for subject leaders to consider their role in widening participation at A-level.

Students' mathematical experiences through their time in the school will provide momentum for continuing with mathematics post-16 and, as such, many of the other EiML units are equally relevant. There are, however, specific areas to focus on which can widen participation at A-level and the following units will help you to explore these.

In each of these units you will find:

  • a set of focused ‘best-fit’ example statements which allow you to locate your own practice
  • a set of ‘moving to the next level’ questions to act as a stimulus for you or for discussion with your department
  • a collection of ‘Stories of change’ from subject leaders around the country to give you an insight into how other SLs are working on widening participation at A-level
  • a final section for you to document your own next steps.
