Departmental Workshops - Structured professional development activities   developing links with primary schools

Developing links with Primary Schools

The aim of this workshop is to consider the development of links with primary schools to further improve the teaching and learning of mathematics. By the end of the workshop the department will have identified ways to capitalise on best practice in mathematics lessons in Y6 and Y7. Ideally, one of the teachers will need to visit a primary mathematics lesson in the preceding couple of weeks so they can contribute some real examples to the discussion. The teacher may want to take ‘Resource Sheet 1’ with them to inform their observations. While there are many references to Y6 throughout the workshop, there is no need to restrict considerations to the final year of primary school. If several members of your team visit partner primaries you could gain a more holistic picture by widening the discussion to other year groups too.
