Applications and Implications: The Historical and Cultural Roots of Mathematics

This workshop is designed to give you and your team time and a structure for exploring the historical and cultural roots of mathematics and how they might be used in the classroom.  The opening activity reminds teachers of the references to this in the statutory Programme of Study, before there is an opportunity to research a story or character in the history of mathematics.  A number of further activities then direct you and your team towards resources, websites and ideas that could be developed in the classroom.  While the workshop could be completed in a two hour session, the ideas generated could well lead to a longer exploration if it is desired.
