FE Magazine - Issue 19Balot box and Mathematical Moments watch face

From the editors
This month the editors invite you to investigate the different approaches of two teachers of mathematics.

The Mathematics I do...
...this month comes from David Acheson, the current President of the Mathematical Association.

Mathematical Moments
We continue this new series for 2011 by offering three more mathematical moments at a variety of levels:

  • Proof by induction
  • 2D shapes explored using tangrams
  • Evaluating statements about number operations.

Focus on...
...the Coalition’s plans for electoral reform. A system which we as teachers of mathematics will probably be expected to explain to our colleagues and students.

A-level and Further Mathematics
Don’t miss the online revision sessions and a range of online courses in modules from A-level and Further Mathematics starting after half term – you can book now.

News from the LSIS STEM programme
Find out what’s on offer in the East of England and don’t forget about the support and materials available via STEM on the Excellence Gateway.

What’s happening in the regions?
The South East provides an update on their Further Mathematics Knowledge Networks.

Elsewhere on the portal
This month we offer another useful collection of links to engage you and your learners on the subject of famous mathematicians.

And finally…
A story with a statistical theme.
