A selection of resources.

## Numeracy Refresher (National STEM Centre)

This numeracy refresher resource, by mathscentre was developed and trialled by staff of the University of Birmingham Careers Centre and subsequently used widely throughout the HE Sector. There are sections which review decimals, fractions, averages, percentages and ratios, making it a useful resource for Key Stage Three upwards.

## Resources and CPD for those working with students resitting GCSE Mathematics - Statistics (NCETM)

This is a link to NCETM Resources and CPD for those working with students resitting GCSE Mathematics is a NCETM Essentials package which has a wealth of resources for teachers working with Level 2 students on many aspects of statistics.

Topics: Averages, correlation and scatter diagrams, data collection, interpreting diagrams and line graphs, misleading statistics, stem and leaf diagrams, time series, moving averages.

## Level 2 Data Handling - Pay rates for men and women (Nuffield Foundation)

This resource is from a collection of activities aimed at level 2 FSMQ. You may need to scroll down the page a little to find the work called "pay rates for men and women" the resource includes teachers notes, students sheets, an excel spreadsheet and a powerpoint. This is a nice introduction to using cumulative frequency to compare sets of data.

## Descriptive Statistics (National STEM Centre)

This is an interesting pack of activities with a set of accompanying spreadsheets. The pack covers; mean and standard deviation, mean and median, standard deviation and interquartile range, boxplots and finally histograms.

## Making Sense of Data: 16-19 core skills resource pack (National STEM Centre)

This pack contains 9 mini courses with teachers’ notes and students resources covering a whole range of data related issues, all set in real world context.

## Outliers (Math is Fun)

The section from Maths is Fun looks at the how outliers affect the mean. It falls short of explaining how to identify an outlier.

## Graphical Interpretation (National STEM Centre)

This is a great resource which simulates planning a response to a hurricane. The students plot the course of the hurricane, interpret graphs on its speed and plot graphs on flooding.

## Scatter Plots (Math is Fun)

This webpage provides an introduction to scatter diagrams and correlation. There is a link to learn more about correlation which leads to a page which covers positive and negative correlation in more depth, going beyond GCSE by introducing methods of calculating a coefficient, using spreadsheet functions to do this. The linked page deals with correlation and causation, and also curves.
