Numeracy Refresher (National STEM Centre)

This numeracy refresher resource, by mathscentre was developed and trialled by staff of the University of Birmingham Careers Centre and subsequently used widely throughout the HE Sector. There are sections which review decimals, fractions, averages, percentages and ratios, making it a useful resource for Key Stage Three upwards.

Level 2 Algebra and graphs - spreadsheet graphs (Nuffield Foundation)

This resource is from a collection of activities aimed at level 2 FSMQ. You may need to scroll down the page a little to find the work called "spreadsheet graphs" the resource includes teachers notes, students sheets, a spreadsheet and a powerpoint. This is a nice introduction to direct and inverse proportion using excel; quadratic graphs also feature.

This resource is from a collection of activities aimed at level 2 FSMQ. You may need to scroll down the page a little to find the work called "currency conversion" the resource includes teachers’ notes, students’ sheets and a powerpoint. This is a nice introduction to direct proportion.

This resource from MEI integrated problem solving project looks at range of topics involving compound interest.

Level 2 Financial calculation (Nuffield Foundation)

This set of resources from Nuffield looks at ; PAYE, simple and compound interest, please be aware that tax thresholds and rates may change with time. There are good teachers’ notes with each of the lessons which are helpful when trying to get to grips with the concept.

This is a link to NCETM Resources and CPD for those working with students resitting GCSE Mathematics is a NCETM Essentials package which has a wealth of resources for teachers working with Level 2 students on many aspects of ratio, proportion, rates of change and number.

Numbers (National STEM Centre)

This resource is from the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching. It is designed to improve confidence in mathematics . Each section offers an overview of a particular topic and the key issues that will be covered, as well as highlighting some common misconceptions. Worked examples are provided to support learning and these are followed by focused exercises to practice skills. Activities to reinforce learning and offer extension opportunities are also supplied, as are topic related tests.

Ratio and proportion (BBC Skillswise)

This section from BBC Skillswise offers a number of factsheets and question sheets. If you select level 1 from the start learning box on the right of the screen you will find factsheets and questions covering : key words/terms, understanding and using direct proportion, understanding ratio and simplifying ratio . Skillswise also provides similar factsheets at Entry level 3,2,1 which can be used to develop your students skills before tackling these sheets and questions. There are also games, quizzes and a video on this page.
