## Lines, Slopes and Linear Equations (Mathematics Assessment Resource Service)

This is one of many resources produced by the Shell Centre at the University of Nottingham for the MARS project in the USA. There are comprehensive teacher notes and excellent student resources examining the concept of gradient. The teachers notes are particularly useful to someone wishing to understand the big idea behind the topic.

## Graphs (National STEM Centre)

These resources contain some interesting approaches to teaching gradient. The resources start with some short key points and then there are a series of questions or suggestions of approaches you may wish to use with students.

## Finding Equations of Parallel and Perpendicular Lines (Mathematics Assessment Resource Service)

This is one of many resources produced by the Shell Centre at the University of Nottingham for the MARS project in the USA. There are comprehensive teacher notes and excellent student resources examining the concept of gradient in particular parallel and perpendicular lines and their equations.

Topics: Gradient - parallel and perpendicular lines

## Interpreting Distance–Time Graphs (Mathematics Assessment Resource Service)

This is one of many resources produced by the Shell Centre at the University of Nottingham for the MARS project in the USA. There are comprehensive teacher notes and Excellent student resources examining the concept distance/time graphs. The teachers’ notes are particularly useful to anyone wishing to get to grips with the big idea(s) behind the topic.

## Level 2 Algebra and graphs - speed and distance (Nuffield Foundation)

This resource is from a collection of activities aimed at level 2 FSMQ. You may need to scroll down the page a little to find the work entitled "speed and distance". The resource includes teachers’ notes, students’ sheets and a powerpoint. This is a nice introduction to the concept of why we may wish to find the area under a graph and some of the techniques that can be used. The students will need to be familiar with finding the area of a rectangle, triangle and trapezium.

Topics: Gradients - interpreting the meaning of gradients and area under a graph
