Vocational Strand: Module 1

Module 1: Exploring maths for vocational learners

This generic, introductory, half-day workshop is for teachers supporting the mathematical development of post-16 learners in any of the following areas:

  • Health & Social Care
  • Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy
  • Hospitality and Catering
  • Construction & Built Environment
  • Sport, Leisure and Tourism
  • Performing Arts (Theatre)
  • Performing Arts (Dance)
  • Visual Arts (Design)
  • Visual Arts (Fashion)

We welcome teachers from a combination of any of these areas; but we do need to know in advance which areas teachers are working in, so that we can provide appropriate materials.

In Module 1 teachers will have opportunities to

  • informally self-assess (no tests!) and develop their personal maths skills and confidence
  • self-assess and develop their maths teaching skills and confidence
  • explore strategies for engaging vocational learners with maths and for sustaining that engagement
  • explore appropriate mathematical learning resources
