Mathematics Revision Days
The Further Mathematics Network will be running a full programme of revision days over the coming year. These days are open to all students and not just those studying with the FMN.
The days are usually held in a university usually just before an examination. A variety of tutors will be available to run sessions for the students and the emphasis is on how to improve exam performance and tackle parts of the course which are giving problems. This year students will be given a choice of sessions so that they can focus on areas for improvement. All exam boards are catered for within the day and where specifications differ separate sessions are run. There is always one session by a FM manger or guest who has direct examining experience of the module concerned and students are talked through aspects of examination technique and common errors.
As well as the practical, interactive sessions students are given a revision pack with notes on all the vital areas of their specification and a full set of papers and worked solutions to help with revision at home. In addition to a serious mathematical workout lunch is arranged at the university and it gives students a flavour of university life – interestingly the food often draws the most comments on the evaluation form! The feedback from students on the courses is good:
‘I have never worked so hard for a day before – but my brain is dead now!’
‘I have finally got projectiles now!!’
‘Getting down to hard work on FP1’
‘Discussing examination technique’

The revision days will be advertised on the local FMC websites, accessed through www.fmnetwork.org.uk, or contact your local FMC manager:
