Issues 1 to 10

The first ten issues of the NCETM Secondary Magazine were published weekly, featuring a range of PD activities, for use within mathematics departments.

 

 Secondary Magazine Issue 10 In this issue, we recognise the contribution that HLTAs make to teaching and learning. PD Module this week: technology for learning.

10. Technology for learning
This unit encourages reflection on how and where you use ICT in the classroom, and to analyse whether the technology has a positive impact on teaching and learning.
9. AfL: Using the lesson objective - overview
The aim of this unit is to explore the benefits of using and sharing an objective with your students.
8. C/D Borderline
This week's module considers the challenges in working with students on the GCSE grade C/D borderline.
7. Group Work
This week's module considers the opportunities presented by group work in the classroom.
6. Revision latest
This activity focuses on different revision techniques and how best they could be used in the classroom with students.
5. Mathematical vocabulary
Looking at literacy in mathematics and how it might be developed in the classroom.
4. Pathways and options: KS3 to KS5
With the 14-19 curriculum currently undergoing a period of significant change, it is important that all schools keep up to date with what is available.
3. Learning mathematics in my school
‘Learning mathematics in my school’ looks at how your department might think about the ways in which your pupils learn mathematics.
2. Why do we teach Mathematics?
This article encourages you to think about different types of mathematical understanding and their place in the classroom.
1. Self Evaluation
Self Evaluation can be used to inform the department improvement plan and identify what needs there are in terms of professional development within the department.
