Exponentials and Logarithms
Question 1 of 3

1. How confident are you that you can explain:

a. the common properties of the function y = a^x and its graph?

Example

A function of the form y = ax where a is a positive number not equal to 1, is called an exponential function.

Properties of the exponential function and its graph:

  • When x = 0, y = a0 = 1 for all values of a, so the graph of an exponential function passes through the point (0,1)
  • The x-axis is an asymptote to the curve
  • The diagrams below show the different forms of the exponential graph.
