Interests : I was fortunate to be able to be able to train as both a Primary teacher and a secondary teacher of Mathematics. During my teaching career, I taught in Infant, Primary, Middle and Secondary Schools and latterly in a Sixth Form College where I taught all stages of Mathematics from Entry Level to A-level. After leaving the classroom, I worked on several projects including the Standards Unit ‘Improving learning in mathematics’ and on Thinking Through Mathematics and Learning Mathematics in Context before joining the National Centre at its foundation. My MSc was in Computer Enhanced Mathematics and I am particularly interested in how teachers can use ICT and digital technology to enhance teaching and learning.

I believe that teachers need to network and work collaboratively. I served on the ACME committee and am now a member of the ACME Outer Circle. I am a NANAMIC committee member and was a member of the MA Council for several years. I am also a member of the ATM.

I am as enthusiastic (perhaps even more so) about teaching maths as I was when I started my career, and, am particularly interested in the foundations of mathematical thinking and how we can enable students to build a strong foundation from which they can progress and enjoy their mathematical journey.

Towards Level 3 Mathematics: An ACME Discussion
The Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) recently launched a paper designed to provoke discussion on the future of post-16 mathematics. This community aims to stimulate discussion on the paper and to collect your views on the proposals. ACME then intends to digest those views with the intention of producing a position statement in the spring 2010 on the issue of Level 3 mathematics.
