Interests : I have 20 years of experience of teaching mathematics in FE.
Since 2000 I have been working as an independent consultant in the mathematics education area. Amongst other things I have been a trainer for the Key Skills Support Programme; an OfSTED inspector in the post-compulsory sector, I have worked in HE; worked for a variety of awarding bodies and for QCA; for Casio Electronics training teachers in the use of the Graphics Calculator. More recently, I have worked at the DfES [now DCSF] as a National Subject Lead for the Standards Unit, working on the Improving Learning in Mathematics resource. I now work for London Mathematics Challenge as one of the two coordinators of the project as well as contributing to the Maths4Life project and the NCETM

Lesson Study
The "Teaching Gap" by Stigler and Hiebert highlights the success of lesson study in Japan, but can this be translated to this country? This community is aimed at those groups of teachers who want to know more about it, and who are willing to share their own journey of discovery with others. It is not for the faint-hearted, but for those who really want to find out for themselves.

South West Teachers' Community
This is a forum for teachers across the SW to share stories about their teaching in a supportive and developmental atmosphere. The idea is to stimulate debate about the learning and teaching of mathematics. It is a "members only" community because we want people to opt in to it. However, applying to be a member is very simple: just click "Join" and be prepared to share your practice with others
