Interests : Laurie has had wide experience in primary mathematics. She has worked as a Leading Mathematics Teacher and as an Advanced Skills Teacher. Throughout her career she has been a subject leader for mathematics, developing colleagues’ subject knowledge and pedagogy through ensuring that they had access to relevant CPD opportunities.

A few years ago Laurie had the opportunity to take a year’s sabbatical to complete an MA in Mathematics Education at the Institute of Education. She has worked with ITE students on mathematics courses and she has been an active member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) and was a member of the Advisory Committee for Mathematics Education (ACME) until January 2010. During this time she has contributed to the writing of the professional standards for teachers with the TDA. In 2008 she was a panel member of the Williams Review of Primary Mathematics.

Between 2008 and 2013 Laurie was Direcector for Policy and Quality and then Primary at the NCETM. During this time she developed along with colleagues at the NCETM, the course content for the Professional Development Lead Support Programme. Laurie is now also an NCETM Accredited PD Lead.

Laurie is director for SMaR+ PD, a country wide provider of maths professional development for primary and early years practitioners running courses, conferences and school based INSET across the UK and aborad. SMaR+ is an NCETM CPD standard holder. She is currently coducting a PhD study to find out how primary teachers in England can adapt their practices to pay attention to teaching with variation.
