Interests : After graduating in 1995, I flirted briefly with the idea of being a theatre director, having spent probably as much time in the student theatre as "front of house" in maths lectures. However, starving in a garret didn't really appeal as a career goal, so I started teaching Maths in April 1996. I was Head of Department at Highgate School 2000-2005, and then, as Assistant then Deputy Head, I lead some major development projects in the school and the wider community. In January 2012 I was appointed to be the founding Headteacher of the London Academy of Excellence, the first 16-19 sixth form to open as part of the "free school" programme. Having guided the first cohort of students through the school, I was looking for a professional challenge on a different scale, so I joined the NCETM as Director for Secondary in June 2014. I had the wonderful opportunity - the wonderful privilege - to co-lead the England-Shanghai Teaching for Mastery teacher exchanges and research projects, and to support the fledgling Maths Hubs as they started to develop 't4m' in their schools.

In 2016 I decided I wanted to return to the classroom and to practice what I'd been preaching. I joined the Harris Federation, a large MAT with over 40 schools (primary and secondary) in London. I was a teaching and learning consultant, supporting the maths departments in a number of the Harris academies. Based at Chobham Academy in Stratford, East London, I taught Years 4, 5 and 7. Currently I am Deputy Director (Maths) for the Atlas Teaching School Partnership, in which role I support the seven schools (three secondaries, four primaries) within the Haberdashers' Aske's Federation, and I co-steer the maths aspects of Atlas TSA's school improvement work across the borough of Lewisham.

In parallel, I have an advisory role with Oxford University Press: I am the Series Consultant for “Discovering Mathematics”, a new suite of KS3 resources that closely follows a highly successful Singaporean scheme, and also am a Series Editor of a new programme of materials, resources and CPD for teachers of maths in primary. I am still closely involved with the NCETM and the Maths Hub programme, in particular with the London SE Maths Hub. I am the Maths Advisor for the Bellevue Place Educational Trust, and am a school governor in a secondary school.
