Interests : I joined the NCETM as Senior Regional Lead in June 2018. There are two main aspects to my Regional Lead role:

To act as the principal NCETM link to the Maths Hub leadership and management teams in the region, supporting, equipping and enabling them to fulfil their role

To work with key regional stakeholders, and representatives of national government programmes supporting mathematics and STEM more widely, to develop and support the implementation of a coherent strategy for mathematics school improvement in the region

The regions are aligned with Teaching School and RSC regions. My region is the East of England and North East London (EENEL).

I have had over 20 years’ experience in maths education and have held school based and advisory roles across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. The building of a meaningful professional learning community is very important to me and during my time as Suffolk County Maths Adviser I worked very hard to foster and lead an environment where Heads of Mathematics could both support and challenge one another.

In 2013 I returned to school as Vice Principal in an outstanding academy and led whole school teaching and learning with an emphasis on development and collaboration. Key to this was the introduction of lesson study and other structures to encourage sustained evidence based joint practive development.

I particularly enjoyed working collaboratively with the maths department to meet the challenge of preparing Year 11 for new GCSE in 2016-17.

I have a strong interest in how we take research findings and implement these meaningfully in the classroom; I feel that the process of implementation hasn’t always been thought through in enough detail in education.

In my last role prior to joining the NCETM, I worked for a 19 school MAT both as Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Research School. I sat on the EEF/Research School mathematics working group and was closely involved in the design and implementation of the recommendations coming out of the KS2/3 Maths Guidance Report. I am a passionate advocate for evidence based leadership of teaching and learning in matheamtics.
