Interests : I joined the NCETM as Regional Lead in June 2018. There are two key aspects to my Regional Lead role:

- to act as the principal NCETM link to the Maths Hub leadership and management teams in the South Central England and North West London, and London SE region, supporting, equipping and enabling them to fulfil their role

- to work with key regional stakeholders, and representatives of national government programmes supporting mathematics and STEM more widely, to develop and support the implementation of a coherent strategy for mathematics school improvement in the region

The regions are aligned with Teaching School and RSC regions. My region is North West London and South Central England.

I am a second-generation maths teacher - my father taught maths in FE - and I taught in secondary schools in North and East London. In 2008 I joined the Advisory team at Westminster City Council, and from 20011-18 did advisory maths work in primary and secondary schools across Barking and Dagenham Local Authority. In 2013 I had the exceptional experience of visiting schools in Tokyo, Japan, and have since worked with hundreds of schools on Lesson Study projects here in England, focusing in particular on designing lessons to develop learners' mathematical problem solving.

I have always been keen to develop professionally, am a long-term member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics, and am currently chair of the National Association of Mathematics Advisers. In 2016 I completed a Masters in Mathematics Teacher Education at the University of Oxford, which has deepened my knowledge and practice of working with teachers of this fundamental subject.

I strongly believe that learners have natural curiosity and creativity, and am always looking to work with teachers to design lessons to help reveal connections and structures, and to develop learners' mathematical thinking.
