Interests : I have been the NCETM Senior Regional Coordinator for the East of England.

I am an experienced primary school teacher and have taught across the primary phase. I was an inner city Head Teacher in Leeds for five years, during this time KS2 test results trebled.

As a Numeracy Consultant for the PNS, I have worked in many schools in challenging circumstances. Working as a freelance Consultant for many years, I have organised and delivered INSET in a wide range of settings and a wide range of topics.

I have a passion for teaching mathematics, believing that mathematics should enjoyable, stimulating and challenging. I have also written many books on primary mathematics and have developed software for interactive whiteboards.

Maths Trails
Mathematics is not a closed box. It does not exist in isolation, and as with all things, it needs to interact with other subjects if it is to flourish. A maths trail creates natural links to many other subjects in the curriculum. In working collaboratively, staff can support each other, benefiting from the wealth of good practice they have to offer.

Teaching mathematics in Pupil Referral Units
This is a community for those who teach mathematics in a Pupil Referral Unit. If you teach mathematics in a PRU or similar environment, you can join this community to share your experiences with others, post lesson plans or learning materials that have worked well in your teaching environment. You can also pass on links to websites offering CPD for different qualifications, useful resources etc.

Towards Level 3 Mathematics: An ACME Discussion
The Advisory Committee on Mathematics Education (ACME) recently launched a paper designed to provoke discussion on the future of post-16 mathematics. This community aims to stimulate discussion on the paper and to collect your views on the proposals. ACME then intends to digest those views with the intention of producing a position statement in the spring 2010 on the issue of Level 3 mathematics.
