Sheldon School

An interview with Neil Spurdell and Nicola Scott, senior leaders from Sheldon School in Chippenham, Wiltshire

This 25-minute video features the headteacher and Lead Practitioner in Maths at Sheldon School in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

Sheldon School is a fully comprehensive 11-18 school of around 1750, with results above the national average. This interview delves into what teaching for mastery can offer a school with an established maths department, and a strong commitment to teacher professional development.

The school joined a Teaching for Mastery Work Group with GLOW Maths Hub in 2018/19, working with Mastery Specialist, Pippa Baker.

Each school joining a Work Group nominates two teachers to act as 'mastery advocates' in their department, who attend termly Work Group meetings led by a Maths Hub Mastery Specialist. The department also receives in-school support from the Mastery Specialist. The school receives £2000 towards cover costs.

Schools interested in joining a Teaching for Mastery Work Group should contact their local hub.
