Nicola Coe, Director of Maths for Inspiration Trust, Maths Hub Lead for Angles Maths Hub and a teacher of maths at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form College, has been recognised in the Pearson National Teaching Awards, one of the country’s most prestigious celebrations of teaching.
Nicola was nominated in the Lifetime Achievement category, where thousands of teachers are considered each year. She was shortlisted, interviewed and selected as one of just six finalists, receiving a Silver Award.
Her nomination was supported by Inspiration Trust CEO, Gareth Stevens, and head of HR Liz Howard, as well as former pupils who spoke about the impact she had made on their lives. One former student said: ‘She changed my life’. Another described her as ‘inspirational’. Others spoke of the belief she gave them, with one adding: ‘She taught me to believe I could do maths when I thought I couldn’t’.
Reflecting on the recognition, Nicola said: ‘To even be nominated was an honour and very humbling. To then be shortlisted and interviewed, and to come out as one of the final six in the country, was incredible. I don’t think any teacher does this job for awards, but it means a lot to know that what I’ve done has had that kind of impact’.
The Pearson National Teaching Awards celebrate outstanding teachers across the UK who make a real difference to the lives of the children and young people they work with. Nicola’s recognition reflects both her commitment to students and her leadership in developing maths teaching locally and nationally.
