Teaching for mastery professional development materials

Over the summer, we’ll begin to publish a suite of new secondary materials, ready for you to use in September. They’re aimed at developing secondary teachers’ understanding of teaching for mastery and what it might look like in the classroom. The materials, mostly in a downloadable PDF, are written to prompt and support curriculum planning discussion between colleagues. This article and introductory video explains more.

For teachers in primary schools, our well-established professional development materials for Fractions are complete for Year 3, and we’ll be adding more over the summer, as well as making further materials available for Multiplication and Division.

Maths Hubs projects for 2019/20: still time to sign up

There’s still time to sign up for the fully-funded CPD opportunities available through Maths Hubs and the NCETM for 2019/20. The 25 projects cover a broad range of teaching and curriculum areas, and are aimed at teachers of all school and college phases, from Early Years, through primary and GCSE, to post-16. At local level, each project has a Work Group you can join.

News from the Maths Hubs Programme

The latest issue of Bespoke brings up-to-date news from the Maths Hubs Programme. This issue celebrates the renaming of one of our hubs in the North West, after the famous mathematician Alan Turing, and summarises all the CPD available via the Maths Hubs in 2019/20.

In brief

• The Turing Trust, close partners of the recently renamed Turing NW Maths Hub, does fantastic work shipping second-hand IT equipment to sub-Saharan Africa for use in schools. To date, 41,000 children, and their teachers, across Africa have benefited, with the most recent consignment, of 1,300 PCs, going to Malawi.
  All donations (PCs, laptops, tablets, phones, accessories like headphones and cables) from schools, organisations and individuals are welcome. Find out more from the Trust’s website.
• The Jo Walters Trust is offering a grant of up to £1,000 to support projects which help and inspire pupils to engage with mathematics. The deadline for applications is 31 August.
