Queen Katharine Academy

The headteacher and second in maths at a Peterborough secondary school explain how introducing teaching for mastery has produced 'priceless' benefits

These two 15-minute interviews feature the headteacher, Lynn Mayes, and second in maths, Steph Anderson, from Queen Katharine Academy in Peterborough. Steph is a Mastery Specialist and has been introducing teaching for mastery in the department in the past few years.

Queen Katharine Academy is part of the Thomas Deacon Education Trust. It is a large 11-18 comprehensive school with around 1,300 students on roll. These interviews explore how the school has embraced teaching for mastery. They also examine the important role of the headteacher in supporting the approach, and the role of the Mastery Specialist in developing the teachers in the department.

The school works with Cambridge Maths Hub as part of the Secondary Teaching for Mastery Programme.

The videos are both available below. The second video will automatically play after the first, or you can move straight to it by selecting it from the menu at the top left.

Schools interested in joining a Teaching for Mastery Work Group should contact their local Maths Hub.
