Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics - Primary Early Career Teachers

Develop mathematical subject knowledge and pedagogy

Who can take part?

Participants will be those identified as having recently started their teaching career; for this programme that means teachers in their second or third year of teaching.

What is involved?

WWhilst recognising the requirements of the Early Career Framework, this programme provides a subject-specific focus for ECTs that enhances the statutory offer, with a focus on the teaching of maths.

This programme strikes a balance between developing teachers’ maths subject knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge, alongside classroom practice to support the learning of maths. Participants will attend the equivalent of four days, focusing on the use of tasks in the classroom between sessions.

All ECTs participating in this programme will be enrolled onto the ECT Expertise in Teaching Maths Modules. These interactive modules are hosted on a learning management system. Whilst ECTs do not need to complete the modules to participate in this programme, the learning from them is explored in greater depth within the sessions.

What will you learn?

  • You will enhance your maths specialist knowledge and associated pedagogies in line with teaching for mastery principles
