New videos to support Secondary PD Materials

We have published two new videos designed to support teachers using our Secondary Mastery Professional Development (PD) Materials. The videos are both around five minutes long, and feature a teacher talking to a small number of students from her Year 8 class, using extracts from the PD Materials as a discussion point.

Both videos are also accompanied by a set of PowerPoint slides which are designed to support discussions with colleagues about how to get the best from the PD Materials. All videos and PowerPoints are available on our new page of Video Prompts for Deeper Thinking.

The first video involves students discussing the stretching of a spring, and the second involves an exploration of the expression 3e = 7. Although the focus of the materials is the maths, teachers might also notice the ways in which the teacher supports and challenges the students. The videos could also be used as a way of reflecting, with colleagues, on what the discussions reveal about students’ understanding of the concepts explored.
