Developing Fluency with Multiplicative Reasoning at KS3
Strengthen understanding and confidence in an area of the KS3 maths curriculum fundamental to success in KS4
Who can take part?
This opportunity is for secondary schools in England. Each school nominates two participants who wish to improve their own teaching and support improvements across their department. It is suitable for experienced and novice teachers. There is an expectation that participants’ subject leaders attend their local Secondary Maths Subject Leaders Community.

Our diagram shows a school's journey towards mastery. Use it to determine where your school's journey starts (click/tap diagram to show a larger version with more detail of the journey).
What you need to know
Intended participants are teachers of KS3 who wish to refine their own practice and begin to develop practice within their department. Participation is suitable for both experienced and novice teachers.
NCP26-13a focuses on Year 7 content; this Work Group is available to all state-funded secondary schools. NCP26-13b focuses on Year 8 content; this Work Group is available only to schools that have previously engaged with the Year 7 content through their Maths Hub.
Participants must attend three local full-day workshops. To support effective and sustainable implementation, there is an expectation that participants’ subject leaders attend the local subject leader community (NCP26-15).
What is involved?
These Work Groups focus on supporting students to develop a deep and connected understanding of multiplicative reasoning. Working in a professional learning community, participants will explore effective ways to teach multiplicative reasoning, share strategies and use carefully-designed classroom resources and guidance materials to offer a coherent learning journey for all students.
One Work Group focuses on Year 7 content and is open to all secondary schools. A second Work Group, focused on Year 8 content, is for schools that have previously taken part in the Year 7 Work Group.
