Maths Hubs professional development opportunities for 2019/20 now available

The full range of CPD opportunities available through Maths Hubs has been published

We’ve just published the full range of CPD opportunities available through Maths Hubs and the NCETM in the coming year (2019/20). Whatever your current need, there’s something to drive forward your own professional development or that of your department or school. Projects are aimed at teachers of all school and college phases, from Early Years, through primary and GCSE, to post-16.

There are more than 20 national projects covering a broad range of teaching and curriculum areas. All work is phase-specific and falls into three broad areas:

  • Developing whole school or departmental improvement in the way that maths is taught and learnt. Teachers join a Work Group, meeting over an extended period, with a focus on mastery, GCSE, A level or other areas
  • Developing early-career teachers or teaching assistants as better classroom practitioners
  • Developing experienced teachers as leaders of maths-specific professional development of groups of teachers outside their own school, or developing existing maths SLEs in school improvement work.

All the CPD is fully funded by Maths Hubs. In some cases, there is extra financial support to subsidise teachers’ time out of class. In all cases, participating in a project will involve joining a small group of teachers in a local Work Group, led by an expert in maths-specific professional development. The Work Group meets and collaborates over the course of a term or a year, distinguishing the experience significantly from attending a one-off workshop or conference model of CPD.

This year, the popular Teaching for Mastery Work Groups are again available to support primary and secondary teachers looking to introduce and embed mastery in maths classrooms. There is also a new project looking at mixed age teaching in primary schools.
